FAQs
Where do we check-in for our reservation?
Reservations check-in anytime during business hours. No set time. You’re on vacation!
Whether you pre-booked online or are looking for a same day reservation, you’ll check in with us at our office by the Au Train River Cabin. Look for the “Au Train River Canoe & Kayak Rental” signs! From there, we will get you to your starting point. We’re still in the transition stage so you’ll see our new logo signs as well as our old logo “The Pirate”.
Where can we park?
Check in and we’ll direct you to the public parking lot and/or the overflow lot that is next to the Doucette Bridge. We’ll direct you to after checking in. We recommend at least one person from your group park a vehicle in this lot so that once you’re off the river you can get out and continue your adventures exploring Au Train, Munising, & Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
What do we do when we are done with our float?
When you arrive at the Doucette Bridge, you pull off to the side where our signs are. Clean out your vessel put your paddles, seat backs, and life jackets inside the watercraft and you can be on your way!
No need to call us when you are done, we’ll come get the watercraft’s at the drop-off station periodically throughout the day.
Is there an age recommendation on canoe and kayak rentals?
These are self-guided tours, and although the river is pretty easy-flowing, we recommend any youngsters (9 and under) be accompanied in a tandem kayak or canoe. The 7-mile float can be very tiring for younger ones.
What should I bring with me on the river?
We made a list! Check it out on our blog post: 5 Things to Pack for the Au Train River Paddle
Do you offer any discounts?
As a veteran-owned company, we are proud to offer a military discount for veterans.
Additionally, we partner with some pretty awesome businesses in the area who may be able to extend a their coupon code to you!
We also offer group rates! Please get in touch with us here for more information.
How stable are the kayaks and canoes, and what happens if I tip?
Our kayaks and canoes are extremely stable and tipping is usually challenging, but people do tip out every once and awhile. Most tips happen due to some good goofing around or multiple stops along the river with getting in & out. If you do tip, we say stand up, most of the river is 3-5 feet deep with some depths over 6 feet.
